Suzhou Independent and Controllable Automotive Chip Innovation Consortium Achievement Transformation Center

Date: 2023-04-15

Suzhou has established the "Suzhou Independent and Controllable Automotive Chip Innovation Consortium Achievement Transformation Center" to accelerate the gathering of high-end innovation elements in Suzhou High-tech Zone. This initiative aims to assist in overcoming more critical technological barriers and facilitate the construction of a globally competitive industrial innovation cluster. This provides strong support for Suzhou High-tech Zone's role as a leader in the Taihu Lake Science and Innovation Circle and as a major industrial and scientific innovation hub for Suzhou.

In the past year, Suzhou High-tech Zone has actively explored and implemented innovative consortium construction efforts, focusing on key industry clusters like photonics, integrated circuits, medical devices, and green technology. Leading companies have played a pivotal role in driving these initiatives and integrating various aspects of the industry supply chain. In 2022, four innovation consortia were approved.

As one of the key areas for integrated circuit industry development in Suzhou, Suzhou High-tech Zone is currently home to 180 integrated circuit-related companies, with an annual industry output value exceeding 16 billion yuan. The Suzhou Independent and Controllable Automotive Electronics Chip Innovation Consortium is a significant move in the national chip layout, aimed at breaking the technical monopoly of foreign leading automotive companies. This consortium has established the Yangtze River Delta Intelligent Automotive Electronic Chip Collaborative Innovation Center and actively worked on critical technologies in the automotive electronic MCU chip field. The chips developed have already achieved an impressive number of 4 million units for vehicle use.

During the event, representatives from member units, including Chery Automobile Co., Tsinghua Automotive Research Institute, Jiangsu Intelligent Network Center, Yangtze River Delta Integrated Circuit Center, and LQ Silicon, shared their development visions, injecting vigor into the consortium's establishment.

LQ Silicon, established in 2023, is a company dedicated to developing domestically controlled CPU chips and other solutions. Their automotive chip testing platform aims to provide services such as wafer testing for automotive-grade chips, product verification, and reliability testing to IC design companies in the Yangtze River Delta.

During the event, two innovation consortium incubation projects were signed, and these projects, once established, are expected to significantly drive the development of the integrated circuit industry in the High-tech Zone.

A contract for the NationalChip-Chery joint laboratory was signed on the same day. To overcome more technical challenges in the automotive chip sector, NationalChip Technology and Chery Automobile jointly established the "NationalChip-Chery Joint Laboratory." This collaboration focuses on joint innovation in automotive chip technology and market development, aiming to promote the integration of China's chip ecosystem with the automotive components ecosystem and the complete vehicle ecosystem.

To achieve greater breakthroughs in fields like new energy vehicles, Suzhou High-tech Zone and Shishan Business Innovation Zone jointly established the Suzhou Automotive Electronic Chip Technology Research Institute with NationalChip Technology. Subsequently, using the research institute as a catalyst, they aim to extend the automotive electronic industry chain in Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta region, creating new economic entities and growth points.
